About

Word Fall combines the best of both word games and the arcade for an innovative new game that will sharpen both your mind and your reflexes.

Spell as many words as you can by maneuvering around the letters raining down to catch the ones you need and avoid the ones you don’t. Spell longer words with less common letters to earn bonus points and a spot on the scoreboards. Word Fall’s addictive gameplay will keep you hooked trying to get the last word in.

How to Play

The Basics

The goal of Word Fall is to spell as many words and earn as many points as possible within the three minute time limit. Letters are raining down from out of the sky – move your finger along the bottom of the screen to control the umbrella to catch them.

Catch the letters you want to add to your current word and dodge the ones you don’t. When your word turns green, double-tap to submit it for points! Or, continue catching letters to spell a bigger word – the longer the word, the more points. If you’re not happy with your word, you can shake your device to clear it and start over. If you shake to clear your word, you’ll lose your bonus streak multiplier as well, so choose wisely.

Easy, Normal, and Hard mode differ in how quickly a new letter drops and the speed at which they fall. Additionally, Survival mode is available for advanced players; where the game is at a very challenging speed and you gain additional time with each word you spell.

Scoring

In a nutshell: you gain additional points for using less common letters, spelling longer words, and maintaining a streak of correctly spelled words. Words must be three letters or longer to be submitted for points.

The details: there are three aspects to Word Fall’s scoring system – the word’s base points, its length multiplier, and your current streak multiplier.

Each letter in your word is worth anywhere from 25 to 300 points, depending on how rare it is (‘E’ is the most common, ‘Z’ is the least). Those values make up your word’s base points, which are then multiplied by an exponential bonus based on how long your word is. Your word’s points are then multiplied a final time by your current streak multiplier.

Valid Words

Word Fall’s dictionary is based on the Moby Words official crosswords list, so any English word accepted in games like Scrabble™ should be valid. That means no hyphenated words or proper nouns (unless the proper noun has an alternative meaning, such as jack). Words must be at least three letters in length to be eligible for points. If you’ve found a word that seems to be missing, please fill out the ‘Submit a Word’ form.
